We are dog owners (those are our dogs, Buck and Emma, in the page header photo) so we understand travelling with pets.
Here is some basic information for anyone travelling with pets in Duncan, B.C. and the surrounding Cowichan Valley area.
First, here’s a map with locations of off-leash hiking areas, veterinarians, pet food suppliers and pet friendly accommodations:
Pet Friendly Accommodation
The Thunderbird Motor Inn, 5849 York Road, Duncan, B.C. is pet friendly. They keep two rooms specifically for people travelling with pets.
It is centrally located close to the Trans-Canada Highway and downtown Duncan.
If you feed your dogs a meat diet, Cowichan Valley Meat Market, 5191 Koksilah Frontage Road (just off the Trans-Canada Highway, south of Duncan) is a very good source of hormone free meat. We get beef hearts for our dogs from Cowichan Valley Meat Market. Hours are 7:30am-6pm Monday-Sunday.
Another source for dogs on a raw meat diet is Buddy’s Natural Pet Food, 5980 Trans-Canada Highway.
Our dogs, Buck and Emma, go to these vets:
South of Duncan, in Mill Bay:
North of Duncan, in Ladysmith:
We certainly hope you don’t need this information but for major pet injuries outside regular business hours, we also recommend:
Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital (open 24 hours), 760 Roderick Street, Victoria, B.C. (a one hour drive south of Duncan)
Central Island Veterinary Emergency Hospital, (open 24 hours) 6550 Metral Drive, Nanaimo, B.C. (a one hour drive north of Duncan)
