As part of our project to document the names on Duncan’s Cenotaph in Charles Hoey Park on Canada Avenue, here is what we know about Frederick Allard, who died in France on 9 April 1917:
“Pte. Fred Allard
There will be deep sympathy for Mrs. Max Allard, Somenos, who not long ago lost her husband, in the news of her further bereavement. her eldest son, Pte. Fred Allard, aged about 20, has been killed in France. He went overseas with an Island battalion, and was drafted to the C.M.R., in the ranks of which he laid down his life for his country. His brother, Maxime, is with the colours and now in Toronto.”
